The diesel-electric car described here consists of a light weight carbody of special design and construction mounted on MCB traction motor trucks and equipped with a 220 H.P. diesel engine to which is connected a 180KW generator that supplies the current for four 40 H.P. traction motors and other electrical power needs.
POWER PLANT
ENGINE: 220 horse-power diesel engine. 60 miles per hour capability.
GENERATOR: Westinghouse type, self ventilated, DC of 180 KW capacity.
CONTROL: Located in the right front area of the car. Solid state electrical control system and Westinghouse, straight-air type air brakes with emergency application feature.
TRUCKS
GAUGE: This car can be made for standard or narrow gauge tracks.
WHEELS: Four to each truck, 30 inch diameter, made of rolled steel.
AXLES: Five inch in diameter, made of chrome nickel steel.
JOURNALS: Equipped with railroad type roller bearings.
SPRINGS: One coil over each journal box and two full elliptic springs on each truck to support coach body.
BRAKES: Brakes are of the "straight" air brake type and applied to all eight wheels of the car.
TRUCK FRAME: Made of fabricated steel, side frames in one solid piece.
MOTORS: Four 40 H.P. electric traction motors. Two motors axle mounted on each truck.
BODY OF CAR
DIMENTIONS: Overall length is 65 ft. Width of 8 ½ ft. Top of the rail to top of the roof is 10 ft. 5 in. Truck centers: 44 ft. 5 ½ in. Wheel base of trucks: 6 ft. Length of Engine/Baggage Compartment: 18 ft. Passenger Section: 45 ft in length.
PASSENGER COMPARTMENT: Seating capacity for 56 passengers and equipped with two toilets, air conditioning and entrance to car on either side by folding doors.
OTHER EQUIPMENT: Fuel capacity of 130 gallons, air tanks, water tanks, air horn, signal bell; air sanders. Fully equipped this car weighs 54,000 pounds.
