First Car for Bay Creek
Number 407

Number 407 was built in 1919 by St. Louis Car Company for the North Texas Traction Company (NTT). This type of car was built as an "Interurban Trailer Car". It was in service as a regular trailer car until 1925.

The NTT was a company started by George T. Bishop of Cleveland, OH. This Interurban Line began operation on July 1, 1902. The original line ran between Fort Worth and Dallas. After World War One, auto traffic was cutting into the Interurban business. To combat this trend, NTT began an elaborate public relations and service improvement campaign, all designed to increase ridership on thier railway and interurban lines. The culmination of NTT's effort in the interurban field were thier crack "Crimson Limited" trains introduced in 1925.

A number of thier handsome arch-roof interurbans and matching trailers were extensively refurbished. Letterboards and sides below the belt rail were painted crimson. This was seperated by cream at the windows. The roofs were brown, the underbodies black, and all the lettering and striping gold. The trailer cars were equipped as parlor cars and featured an awning at the rear and lighted tail sign. In 1932 the trailers were taken off the train, and the Crimson Limited ceased running in 1934 due to loss of ridership.

The trailer cars were never used again and they were let out for salvage in 1936. The 407 was purchased by a local private person that moved it, and two other trailers, to a development known as "Eagel Mt. Lake". This was a campground with the three interurban cars set up as cabins. In the 1960s, noted Texas interurban authority Johnnie Myers purchased the car with plans to restore the car for a museum. This plan did not pan out. The car was sold to Bay Creek Railway in 2006 for use in passenger service. The car was originally powered by electric traction motors, drawing electricity from overhead wires. The car will now be self-propelled via diesel engine and hydrostatic drive.
