This Edwards "special" is well suited for use as a maintenance-of-way vehicle. With the addition of side railings, benches and canopy, this car is ideal for use as a open air excursion car.
POWER PLANT:
MOTOR: 200 horse power Cummins B-T four cylinder diesel engine.
TRANSMISSION: Allison CTR-3331 Toromatic.
FINAL DRIVE: Edwards Final Drive. Power is transmitted to all wheels of the rear truck.
GAUGE: This car can be built to narrow or standard gauge.
WHEELS: Four wheels to each truck, 24 in. diameter wheels made of steel.
AXLES: Axles are 5 inch diameter made of chrome nickel steel.
JOURNALS: Equipped with roller type bearings.
SPRINGS: One coil spring over each journal box and two full elliptic springs on each truck to support the body.
BRAKES: Brakes are of the "straight" type with shoes applying to all eight wheels.
TRUCK FRAME: Made of fabricated steel, side frames in one solid piece.
DIMENSIONS: Length over all is 25 ft. Height rail to top of car is 8ft. 6 in. Width of car is 8ft. 6 in. 12ft. 5 in. truck centers with 19ft loading space. Capacity is 15 tons. Also furnished with 20ft. truck centers and 26ft. loading space.
FRAME & BODY: Frame is of all steel construction. Body is steel with hardwood window sash. Roof on cab is turtle back style made of tongue and groove, dressed and covered with canvas and painted. Deck is a hardwood of tongue and groove securely attached to the chassis. Can be out fitted with removable sides or stakes.
